The
members of Shorewood Kiwanis, here assembled, pause to pay tribute to the
memory of our dear friend and to express our sorrow to _________________ family who has
so generously shared him with us for these many years.
We
come here today to honor his memory, to express to his family and friends our
comforting wishes, and to show our love for our departed friend and brother
Kiwanian.
Death should not trouble us, nor make us afraid. Our Lord
was victorious over death and is preparing a place for us to live forever with
Him. As children of God we are joint heirs with Him. Because our Lord lives, we
also shall live... We feel sorrow and shall miss our departed friend, but we
are assured that we shall meet with __________________ again.
As our Lord loves us, we are to love one another. The
objectives of Kiwanis give us direction and guidance in our human
relationships. We give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than the
material Values of life. We attempt to lead the way from despair to
fulfillment, from destruction to creation, from apathy to action and from fear
to peace of mind.
Our departed friend and brother was a good Kiwanian. He
loyally participated in the programs designed to achieve the Kiwanis
objectives. He would want us to continue supporting these programs for the betterment
of life in this community.
Almighty
God, in his infinite wisdom, has called away a dear friend. We, united in
service to others through Kiwanis, are deeply saddened by our great loss.
Pausing to look inward and upward, we remember these comforting words:
I will call upon God,
and the Lord will save me.
Evening and morning and at noon he will hear my voice.
He will deliver my soul in safety.
In His presence is fullness of joy.

(from)
2 Timothy:
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my
departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I
have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day;
and not to me only, but to all them that love his appearing.”
With
such confidence, available and effective throughout the centuries of human
experience, Kiwanians may live courageously and die without fear. _______________________,
surely, will receive his place, his reward, his everlasting life.
O God, who heals the broken in heart, and
binds up their Wounds, we bow before you and ask you to look, in compassion,
upon your Servants, whose joy has been turned to mourning, leave them not
comfortless. Grant that they may be drawn closer to you and to each other by
their common sorrow. Fill their souls with the light and comfort of your
presence.
We ask for your blessing upon the family of
our friend and upon all his friends as he is laid to rest. May they be kept in
health and joy. May they live in safety and peace.
Please
join with us as we repeat the 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His
name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff,
they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine
enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the lord forever.
And The Lord’s Prayer:
Our
Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy
will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And
forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those that trespass against us. And
lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
